Cryptids & Canines

While traveling through West Virginia, one will surely hear about the Mothman. This humanoid moth-like creature is depicted in countless documentaries and in Hollywood films such as Mothman Prophecy. Point Pleasant, West Virginia is the home of the Mothman Legend. Here, you'll find shops, restaurants and even a museum dedicated to the legend of Mothman.

The Mothman Museum features artifacts related to the legend of Mothman. We were pleasantly surprised to see "Pets Allowed" on the front door and wasted no time taking the dogs on this Cryptid adventure.

The museum hosts many depictions of the Mothman based on personal accounts of sightings. In all the sightings it is clear that Mothman has red eyes and appears to take flight.  The Mothman appears to show itself during times of extreme tragedy with many suggesting that he appears as a harbinger of doom most notably associated with the Silver Bridge Collapse in 1966.

While the museum is small, it's a great stop for the entire pack to enjoy. Don't forget to stop around the corner and see the silver Mothman statue and take a walk down Main Street. There are many shops on Main Street with Mothman merchandise and memorabilia. If you find yourself thirsty, you can even grab a bottle of Mothman Rootbeer.
